Bates City, MO – Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-70 Leave Four Injured, One Seriously

Bates City, MO (September 20, 2025) – A pair of crashes on Interstate 70 in Bates City on Saturday morning, September 20, left four people injured, including one with serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The first collision occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 31. Troopers reported that a 19-year-old man from Oak Grove had stopped his pickup truck when a 54-year-old Kansas City man, driving another pickup, failed to notice the slowdown and rear-ended the vehicle. The Kansas City driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Centerpoint Medical Center for further care. A passenger in the Oak Grove pickup sustained minor injuries.
As traffic backed up from the initial crash, a secondary collision involving four additional vehicles took place nearby. Investigators said two motorcyclists—a 38-year-old man from Hannibal and a 55-year-old man from Columbia—collided with one another before striking the rear of a Jeep driven by a 30-year-old man from Licking.
One of the motorcycles then overturned and hit a second Jeep, driven by a woman from Georgia. Both motorcyclists suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Centerpoint for treatment. The Jeep drivers were not reported injured. Troopers remained on scene for several hours to investigate the crashes.
We extend our best wishes to those injured in these crashes and hope for their full recovery.
