Glenwood Springs, CO – Semi Rollover Crash Closes I-70 in Glenwood Canyon

Glenwood Springs, CO (September 27, 2025) – Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon were fully reopened Saturday afternoon following a semi-truck rollover that took place Friday evening.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the crash occurred around 6 p.m. on September 26 in the narrow canyon corridor. Crews initially reopened I-70 overnight, but westbound lanes were closed again Saturday at about 10:30 a.m. to allow for cleanup and recovery operations. Traffic resumed roughly 90 minutes later.

CDOT emphasized the challenges of working in Glenwood Canyon due to its limited roadway space and steep terrain, which often requires full lane closures during major incidents. A lengthy detour was implemented during the shutdown, redirecting westbound drivers onto US 6, Highway 131, US 40, and Highway 13, before rejoining I-70 near Rifle.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the crash resulted in any injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this accident, and we hope for the safety of everyone involved.
