Kansas City, KS – Rollover Crash on I-70 Ends in Injuries near 78th St

Kansas City, KS (August 2, 2025) – A rollover accident on eastbound Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County resulted in three people being transported to the hospital early Friday morning, August 1. The crash took place around 5:20 a.m. near the N 78th Street exit and involved a single vehicle overturning into a roadside ditch.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2010 Jeep Patriot was headed east when a white sedan suddenly veered into its lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the Jeep swerved off the right shoulder, hitting a metal delineator and the edge of a guardrail before flipping twice and coming to rest upright in a ditch.
Emergency personnel from Kansas City Fire and Rescue responded swiftly. The driver, 23-year-old Christian Gambrell of Leavenworth, was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, though authorities indicated he did not appear to be injured and had been wearing a seatbelt.
Two passengers were also hospitalized. Jordan Nelson, 23, also from Leavenworth, was reportedly uninjured. However, an infant passenger, identified as Kai Nelson, sustained suspected injuries. The child’s current condition has not yet been disclosed.
Investigators from the Kansas Highway Patrol are continuing to review the events that led to the crash. We extend our support to all those impacted and hope for a quick and full recovery for the injured.
