St. Louis, MO – 4 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-170 NB at I-70 Interchange

St. Louis, MO (October 8, 2025) – Four people were killed Monday afternoon, October 6, in a multi-vehicle collision caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 170 northbound at the I-70 interchange in St. Louis County.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:05 p.m. when an 88-year-old man from St. Louis was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox southbound in the northbound lanes of I-170. His vehicle collided head-on with a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 60-year-old man from St. Albans. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn, where it was subsequently struck by a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2010 Toyota Corolla.

The wrong-way driver and three occupants of the Jeep—men aged 60 and 65 and a 69-year-old woman from Hazelwood—were all pronounced dead at the scene or shortly after. The surviving drivers of the Nissan and Toyota sustained no serious injuries, but their vehicles were totaled.

Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with the Berkeley Fire Protection District and Berkeley Police Department, assisted at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of this devastating wrong-way collision.
