Wright City, MO – Hit-and-Run Crash on I-70 at MM 200

Wright City, MO (July 25, 2025) – A hit-and-run collision on westbound Interstate 70 in Warren County left one man injured on Wednesday afternoon, July 23.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the accident happened at approximately 1:50 p.m. near the 200-mile marker. A 31-year-old man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was driving a 2024 Volvo VNL westbound when an unidentified vehicle attempted to change lanes and struck his truck.

The impact forced the Volvo into the concrete median wall. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and came to a stop on the roadside. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled the scene and has not been identified. Authorities confirmed that no identifying information about that vehicle is currently available.

The truck driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was transported by Warren County Ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis for treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the hit-and-run and is working to identify the driver responsible.

We hope the injured truck driver recovers quickly and fully.

Hit-and-Run Accidents on I-70 in Warren County

Hit-and-run crashes are particularly devastating, not just because of the injuries involved but also due to the legal and financial complications that follow when the responsible driver leaves the scene.

Why do these crashes happen?

  • Drivers may panic or flee to avoid arrest, especially if driving without insurance or under the influence.
  • Lane changes at high speeds on interstates like I-70 can quickly lead to sideswipes or more serious collisions if drivers don’t check their blind spots.

What to do if you’re involved in a hit-and-run:

  • Call 911 immediately and stay at the scene.
  • If possible, try to remember or write down any details about the fleeing vehicle, such as make, model, color, or direction it went.
  • Gather witness statements and photos of the damage and surroundings.
  • Get medical help, even if your injuries seem minor.

Compensation for victims:
If the at-fault driver is never found, you may still be entitled to compensation through:

  • Uninsured motorist (UM) coverage under your own insurance
  • Personal injury protection (PIP) benefits
  • Legal claims that seek to hold other third parties responsible, if applicable

Victims of hit-and-run accidents should also speak to a personal injury attorney. A lawyer can help navigate complex insurance claims, ensure the proper authorities are involved, and help maximize the support needed for recovery.

Highway safety in Warren County depends on all drivers following the law and remaining at the scene when crashes happen. As investigators work to locate the responsible party in this I-70 hit-and-run, the hope remains that justice will be served and the injured driver will be able to fully recover.
