Callaway Co., MO – Two-Car Collision with Injuries on I-70 near MM 136

Callaway County, MO (July 12, 2025) — A two-vehicle collision in an eastbound construction zone on Interstate 70 left one woman seriously injured on Friday afternoon, July 11, near mile marker 136, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. and involved a 2011 Toyota 4Runner and a 2014 Freightliner M2, both traveling eastbound. As the vehicles attempted to merge into the right lane within the construction zone, the Freightliner—operated by a 25-year-old man from Tacoma, Washington—reportedly struck the rear of the Toyota SUV, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Fulton, Missouri.

The force of the impact forced the Toyota into a concrete barrier, pinning it between the wall and the commercial truck. Emergency medical crews arrived quickly and transported the woman to University Hospital with serious injuries. Authorities noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Freightliner driver was unharmed.

Due to the extent of the damage, both vehicles required towing, and the Toyota was declared a total loss. The scene was cleared by Slate Towing.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we wish her a full and steady recovery.
