Callaway, MO – Injury Crash on WB I-70 at MM 143

Callaway, MO (July 29, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash occurred on Saturday, July 26, at approximately 4:00 p.m. on westbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 143 in Callaway County. The incident involved a 2009 Peterbilt 579, a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and a 2007 Honda Civic.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of the Harley-Davidson, a 61-year-old male from Brandon, MS, struck an object in the roadway. The impact caused Vehicle 3, the Peterbilt truck, to brake suddenly in an attempt to avoid the collision. As a result, Vehicle 2, the Honda Civic, struck the towed unit of the Peterbilt truck.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported by Callaway EMS to MU Hospital with minor injuries. The other two drivers, the 29-year-old male driver of the Peterbilt truck and the 71-year-old male driver of the Honda Civic, were not injured but had their vehicles towed from the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Trooper B. R. Kamp of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish him a swift recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

Motorcycle accidents, such as the one on I-70, can be especially dangerous due to the vulnerability of riders. While motorcyclists account for a smaller portion of all accidents, they make up a disproportionately high percentage of serious injuries and fatalities. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), motorcyclists are 27 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash per mile traveled compared to those in passenger vehicles.

The high-risk nature of motorcycle riding is often due to several factors, including:

  • Lack of Protection: Motorcycles provide no external protection, unlike cars or trucks. In the event of a crash, riders are directly exposed to the road and other hazards.
  • Speed and Stability: Motorcycles are more susceptible to instability at higher speeds or on uneven road surfaces.
  • Visibility: Motorcycles are smaller and can be less visible to other drivers, especially in traffic or when changing lanes.

If you or a loved one is injured in a motorcycle accident, it’s essential to seek immediate medical attention, even for minor injuries, as some conditions may not be immediately apparent. Additionally, motorcycle accident victims may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical Costs: Including surgeries, hospital stays, and rehabilitation.
  • Lost Wages: Compensation for time off work during recovery.
  • Pain and Suffering: Financial recovery for physical and emotional distress.
  • Property Damage: For repairs or replacement of the damaged motorcycle.

Consulting with a personal injury lawyer can help you navigate the complexities of motorcycle accident claims. An attorney can guide you through the process of filing insurance claims and securing fair compensation. In cases involving serious injury, a lawyer can ensure that your legal rights are protected while you focus on your recovery.
