Dillon, CO – Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on I-70 Near Eisenhower Tnl

Dillon, CO (July 7, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel left one man and a dog dead Thursday afternoon.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened just after 1 p.m. near mile marker 218. A 2021 Ram 3000 pickup truck hauling a trailer was traveling westbound when it veered onto the shoulder and slammed into the back of a parked semi-truck.

After impact, the pickup spun out, rolled once, and caught fire. The driver of the Ram, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene. A dog traveling with him also died in the crash. Officials have not yet released the driver’s identity, pending confirmation from the Summit County coroner.

The semi-truck driver, a 62-year-old man from Virginia, was not injured.

Authorities closed both directions of I-70 between Exit 205 at Dillon and Exit 216 at Loveland Pass for several hours while they cleared the scene.
