Lafayette Co, MO – Injury Accident on I-70 at MM 59
Lafayette Co, MO (February 5, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to an injury accident on Interstate 70 in Lafayette County during the early morning hours on Tuesday, February 3. The crash was reported around 4:58 a.m. on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 59.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, two vehicles were traveling east when the collision happened. A 2023 Kia Seltos and a 2026 Chevrolet truck were both moving in the same direction along the interstate.
The report states that the driver of the Kia attempted to increase speed in the left lane in order to pass the Chevrolet truck. As the Kia changed lanes, the Chevrolet struck it on the rear driver’s side. The impact caused the Kia to leave the roadway to the left.
After leaving the road, the Kia overturned and struck the median cable barrier. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was later towed from the scene. The Chevrolet truck sustained minor damage and could be driven away.
The driver of the Kia, a 76-year-old man from Columbia, Missouri, was hurt in the crash. He was treated at the scene and then taken by EMS to Western Missouri Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, a 23-year-old man from Greentop, Missouri, was not reported to be injured. Emergency crews and troopers assisted at the scene as responders worked through the early morning hours.
