Indianapolis, IN – Fatal Semi-Truck Crash on I-70 near N Split

Indianapolis, IN (July 6, 2025) — A fatal accident involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle took place on Friday afternoon, July 4, in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the I-65 interchange, a high-traffic area commonly referred to as the North Split in downtown Indianapolis. The crash was reported at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Indiana State Police say the semi came to a sudden stop, causing its load of plywood to shift and dislodge from the flatbed trailer. Tragically, the driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the individual’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.
Preliminary investigations suggest a vehicle may have abruptly changed lanes ahead of the truck, potentially prompting the sudden braking maneuver.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and paramedics, responded quickly to secure the scene and check for any other vehicles involved. No additional injuries were reported.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the driver during this incredibly difficult time.
