Jackson Co., MO – I-70 Scene of Injury Crash near MP 17.4

Jackson County, MO (July 5, 2025) – A rear-end collision on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 17.4-mile marker sent one person to the hospital Thursday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on July 3, around 5:50 p.m., near the eastern edge of Independence. Investigators say a 22-year-old man from Independence was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu when he failed to reduce speed for slowing traffic and struck the back of a 2019 Ford Fusion, which was being driven by a 63-year-old woman from Grain Valley.

The impact caused minor damage to both vehicles. While neither vehicle had to be towed, the Ford Fusion’s driver required medical attention and was transported to Centerpoint Medical Center by Central Jackson County EMS. Her injuries were described as minor. The driver of the Malibu was unharmed.

Officials confirmed that both individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The incident remains under review as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances.

We extend our best wishes to the injured driver and hope for a smooth and swift recovery.
